Greenday are one of the first bands I started listening to when I first became interested in music, and on first picking up and instrument, my style of play was heavily influenced by their bass player, Mike Dirnt.
The Offspring were, once again, one of the bands I began listening to when i first became interested in music. Incidently, this particular song was the very first thing I ever learned how to play on a bass guitar and again, influenced my style of play as a fledgling musician.
The Vines was the first suggestion of a bands melody not being dependant on guitar or vocals, and also acted as a bridging device into slightly heavier music.
Muse were one of the first bands who actually began to influence my style of play, and made me strive to use interesting rhythmic and melodies, creating a far more bass driven found than is generally found in rock music. Muse also opened my eyes to the world of equipment being used both on stage and in the background and in retrospect, this is probably part of what let me to study the production of sound as opposed the the performance.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are another band who heavily inspire my style of bass playing, although I am nowhere near as talented. Similar to the reasons I have been drawn to Muse, the band is heavily bass driven, however the overall sound produced by the two bands could not be more varied.
Biffy Clyro are one of the first bands who made me wish to perform vocally whilst also playing bass. They also introduced me to a whole new style of music, using the same basic components found in many of the bands featured previously but employed in a different manner.
The Who is yet another band whose bass player I aspire to play like although, once again, his ability far surpasses my own.
The Foo Fighters are a band that I am not a huge fan of, although they heavily inspire the style of music I currently play and right.
This last example is my own band, and whilst I am not inspired by my own music, working as part of a band with talented musicians drives me to perform better as a musician. It has also offered opportunities to use my practical skills as a sound engineer when recording and mixing our work, such as this track.
